Indian Savoury Semolina Cake



SERVING SIZE: 6

PREP TIME: 20 mins

COOK TIME: 40 mins

TOTAL TIME: 1 hr



Grease a loaf tin and preheat oven to 180 degrees

Ingredients



  • 1 red chilli finely chopped

  • 1 cup grated carrot

  • 1 spring onion finely chopped

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground tumeric

  • 1/2 cup peas

  • 1 cup semolina

  • 1/2 cup natural yoghurt

  • 3/4 cup water

  • 6 green beans finely sliced

  • 1/2 to 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1/2 - 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds

Ingredients for tempering


  • 2 tablespoons oil

  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds

  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds

  • 6 curry leaves chopped





Method

In a bowl place semolina , yoghurt and water, mix well and set aside

Prepare all the vegetables and mix into the batter

Add the tumeric , sesame seeds and salt

Set aside


In a small frypan place the oil and the cumin and mustard seeds, cook till they start popping , turn off the heat and add the curry leaves, heat them, and pour this mixture into the batter

Add the baking soda

Pour into the loaf tin and cook for about 40 mins till a skewer inserted comes out dry,

Set aside to cool and serve
